The Great Gatsby Party: Invitations

"I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited-they went there."
-The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

Now I realize that one of the only people to ever receive an invitation to one of Jay Gatsby's parties was Nick Carraway, but it is a good idea to invite your guests to your party. Unless your house already has a reputation of hosting huge parties that people just show up to uninvited....

The guests first impression about your Great Gatsby themed party will be based on the first information they are given about the event: the invitations. The invitations are very important. These are going to set the mood for the party you are throwing, and they will provide the guests with all the necessary information.

Invites in gold, champagne, black and white, or silver with vintage block fonts work best. Even better if you can find invites with ’20s images or metallic or glittery details.

Once you have decided on a budget, you will have a better idea of how much you will be able to spend on invitations. I am going to try to provide a low cost option, a higher end option, and a middle-of-the-road option for invitations, and I am going to focus on physical invitations rather than a digital invite like a video, Evite, or Facebook event invite (even though these are great, free options!).

Steal
Cafe Press had a great selection of budget invites that fit The Great Gatsby theme perfectly. These notecards are blank on the inside, which means that you would have to write your own invitation on the inside, but these cards are such a steal that it is worth the extra work.

The first it titled on their site as Cute Art Deco Notecards and comes in a pack of 10 for $15.99, equaling about a $1.60 an invite.

The second invite is titled Vintage Vichy Comite des Fetes Notecards, and these are also a pack of 10 for $15.99 equaling about $1.60 per card.

The third invite is titled Ornate Pattern on Ceiling Notecards. These also come in a pack of 10 for $15.99, or about $1.60 a card.

Standard
This invite is the Signature White Wedding Invite with Evening Sparkle in the color Black by Wedding Paper Divas. These invites don't have actual glitter on them, but they have the Great Gatsby look, no doubt. For a quantity of 25 invites just like this, the total comes to $92.25, meaning that each invite costs $3.69.

Splurge
This is the Chicago Invitation from Invitations by Ajalon. This invite is spectacular, and gives you a lot of options as far as customization. This beautiful invitation comes at a steep cost, however if it is within your budget they cannot by beat. At a quantity of 25, just the invitation using 1 font color comes to $367. That comes to $14.68 per invite.

There are countless other invitations out there that would be perfect for this theme. I would recommend searching for Great Gatsby invitations, Roaring Twenties invitations, or Art Deco invitations and I would also check out sites like etsy.com to find handmade invites.
